lazy monday

Is there anything better than not having to go to work on a monday?

Yesterday we celebrated my grandpa’s oldest brother’s 90th birthday, and I didn’t know how late it would get and since it included a 90-minute-drive I took today off from work. I got home at around 7pm last night, which was not as late as I expected, but it was still so nice to sleep in today! I’ve been wearing leggins and a hoodie all day, watched TV on the couch (there really is nothing on TV during the day!) and just chilled.

Oh, and I made cookies!

I’ll take them to work with me tomorrow. I wanted to make some last week, but when I was about to get started I noticed that I had run out of flour (never thought that would happen…). And since I was already in my pj’s I couldn’t go to the store and so I put it off.

Hope you had a nice monday, too! Only 4 more days till the weekend…

vacation glimpses

We’re going back home tomorrow, and it feels like the week here has flown by. We did see some sun and blue skies, but it stayed pretty cold all week. Yesterday was a lazy day for me; while my parents went on a long walk I stayed in and just went back to bed after breakfast. After all, that’s what vacations are for, right?

But sleep and relax wasn’t all I did. We drove around quite a bit and saw a lot. It really is beautiful here!

We enjoyed some sweet treats…

That pink creamy, foamy stuff is called guf. It’s sweet and sticky and tastes a little like strawberries. I bought some to take home…

We climbed the Blåvand light house!

I’m still out of breath just thinking about it :D It was sunny when we came back down and we enjoyed the sun on the beach for a while.

This is “our” beach, in Vejers. It’s incredibly wide and the sand is fine and soft. Too bad it was too cold and windy to really hang out at the beach!

There’s a really nice miniature golf place close to Blåvand, and we went to play. Of course I chose a pink ball. Didn’t help much though, I came in last.

The area where our vacation home is is a pretty wooded area. We had some visitors on wednesday…

They were really close to the houses and took their time eating, then slowly moved on. My mom and I thought about following them but didn’t. Luckily our neighbors’ dogs didn’t make a sound to scare them away.

Last but not least, a beach vacation is not complete without a sunset, right? We saw two very pretty ones, but sadly the clouds swallowed the best part right at the end. Oh well.

Happy weekend!

back to blog

So I somehow took a really long break from this little blog here. I don’t even know why; I guess I had so many pictures to sort through and edit that I kept putting it off and then I just didn’t feel like blogging, and here we are now. I’ve written a lot of posts in my mind, and after being asked more frequently if I was gonna blog again I decided to use this long holiday weekend to get back to it.

The last time I blogged it was right before Lent. I’m happy to report that I made it through :D I spent the first few days of Lent on a little island vacation with my parents. We went to Sylt, an island in the North Sea. It’s pretty much the German version of the Hamptons; it’s very posh and full of rich people and deserted in February.

The trip was my mom’s birthday gift to my dad, and he didn’t know I was gonna come until the night before we left. I just drove to my parents’ after work, which is a 90 minute drive, and knocked on the back door. You should have seen my dad’s face when he saw me with my little suitcase… priceless!

We stayed in 2 apartments; my parents had one upstairs and I had a little one to myself. It was just one room with a little kitchen in a corner and a bathroom, but it was perfectly fine for just me. We only spent the evenings there anyways; during the day we drove all over the island and took in the sights.

We saw some really beautiful lighthouses.

I wish we could have seen one at night.  I have never seen the actual lights of a lighthouse before!

As you can see from the picture above, the weather was a little funny. It was really nice on the first day but pretty overcast the rest of the time. The light was weird, and so a lot of pictures came out a little funny. Oh, and it was freezing cold! I was wearing my old snowboarding jacket the whole time, and sometimes the wind was so strong that I had tears running down my face!

These guys didn’t seem to mind.

They’re cows, in case you’re wondering.

Speaking of food (haha), we had fish every day! It was an obvious choice: We were at the ocean, where the fish is as fresh at it will ever be. And it was so good!

While we drove around the island I made my dad stop every now and then so I could take pictures of the houses. They’re so pretty, and they all have the typical straw roofs. We saw a lot of beautiful windows and doors, and I loved that a lot of them were black or dark gray instead of the typical white.

You probably noticed all the stone walls. You see them everywhere on the island!

I really liked them! I would plant lavender and roses on top of them, but on the island you see mostly grass or bushes planted on them. Might have to do with the climate, maybe?

So, of course we didn’t just sit in the car all day. We mostly went to different beaches and got sand in our shoes (although that might have only been me).

We collected quite a few oyster shells. I still don’t really know what I want to do with all of them, but they were pretty and I couldn’t resist.

The first beach we went to was on the east side of the island. There was no wind and just a few small waves, and the sun was shining and it was so nice to walk in the sand and listen to the waves.

On the west side of the island the waves were definitely bigger, and the wind was really strong!

On our last night on the island we went to see the sun set. You can’t see it in the pictures, but that was the coldest I have been in a long time! It was still beautiful, though!

So that was my little island vacation way back in February. I’ve always wanted to go to Sylt, and while it’s expensive it’s a really beautiful place!

We left on a saturday, and on the way back we stopped in Denmark. But that’s another post for later this week!

coming up: lent

So Lent is coming up on wednesday.  Last year me and 2 of my coworkers gave up chocolate for Lent, and after surviving the first week it wasn’t all that bad. We’re doing it again this year, but this year I decided to give up candy- all kinds of candy, including cookies, cake, chips… I’ll allow myself Ritz crackers though, and I guess I’ll eat a lot of fruit to get my sweet fix.

I hope it won’t be all that bad after the first week, but I already kinda regret giving up, well, everything. Especially since I’ll have to sit through at least one birthday celebration, which of course means cake.

Are you giving something up for Lent?
